Manila blues

An irritated south China sea rides the pier
A thorn sail flies by as if it were a magic carpet,
Ant like crowds err soaked by the merciless gales
A motorcycle slides between stranded jeepneies

The slum is an unending galaxy of black holes
Rivers of mud join forces into a delta of slime
Dead cattle are fodder to a pack of frenzied dogs
Half destroyed shacks harbour half naked children

Prayers are chanted to the pulse of the waves,
Inclement, nature accuses, judges and punishes
The typhoon hisses with the distinct voice of doom
A familiar melody, a refrain of tears and tragedy
